Werking van Smartbleach:

Photobleaching Technique:
The wavelength of the KTP laser (532 nm) is one of the few wavelengths that are capable of Photobleaching, next to the 290 nm and 365 nm (both high energy ultraviolet lights), This bleaching technique breaks down the stained molecules (including tetracyclines) present within the top third of the dentine (reference to Photobleaching feasibility study)

Basic PH of the Smartbleach gel:
The percentage of perhydroxyl radicals is much greater than the oxygen’s percentage of radicals, due to the laser’s interaction with the Smartbleach gel. In the context of bleaching, perhydroxyl radicals are 50% more active than the oxygen radicals. Consequently, the effect of bleaching using this method is greater than with other systems.

Photochemical Technique:
This technique induces a higher production of free radicals than does the standard thermal activation of hydrogen peroxide. As a result there is a limited heat build-up in the pulp tissue and the Smartbleach gel retains its elevated temperature for a longer period of time while also releasing a greater number of active radicals.

Surgical applications:
The high level of absorption in Hemoglobin, Oxyhemoglobin and Melanin makes the KTP laser ideal for minor surgeries with perfect haemostasis. The limited temperature effect on the surrounding tissue does not cause necrosis and therefore no post-operative complications. This makes the KTP laser a very safe piece of equipment to use for minor surgeries.

Sterilized effect:
Sterilization in endodontics and periodontic treatments are achieved by the thermal effects of the KTP laser on bacterial flora.

Tooth neck hypersensitivity:
Sealing of the dental tubuli is obtained through glazing the exposed dentin surface.

Is it safe to bleach with Smartbleach?

Smartbleach does not cause heat build up in the pulp tissue or enamel etching. It has the added benefit of increased caries resistance. All this clearly shows that Smartbleach is a very safe and effective bleaching method.
