Product operations
Surgical applications:
The Nd:YAG laser has excellent cutting ability on the soft tissue, due to high absorption efficiency in dark colors.
Sterilization effect:
Various studies show that the laser light in the infrared region has strong bactericide effects (by damaging the cell membranes) and deactivates bacterial toxins. The results listed above are obtained using a very low laser power resulting in negligible heat. Since it has non-appreciable absorption in dental hard tissue, the Nd:YAG laser is also active in the deep layers of dentin (up to a depth of 1100 microns) and capable of sterilization. In parodontology, the Nd:YAG laser will be able to remove the damaged epithelial tissue.
Tooth neck hypersensitivity:
Sealing of the dental tubuli is obtained through glazing the exposed dentin surface.
Q&A
Is anaesthesia necessary by parodontology treatment with Nd:YAG laser?
No, when used correctly the Nd:YAG laser does not cause an adverse heat effect. High precision instruments (300 microns fiber) and very short laser pulses are used, making it possible to facilitate a painless treatment.
What is the long-term outlook for patients treated for tooth neck hypersensitivity?
In addition to receiving the laser treatment, the patient will need to be educated. The results can last from anywhere between 8-12 months, depending on the patient’s intake of acidic drinks, choice of toothbrush, brushing technique, etc.
