Product operations
Surgical applications:
The Nd:YAG laser has an excellent cutting ability on the blood vessels because of its high absorption efficiency in dark colors. It can be used at high intensity without the danger of side effects, due to the excellent water cooling device on the hand piece.
Sterilization technique:
Various studies show that the laser light in the infrared region has a strong bactericide effect (by damaging the cell membranes) and deactivates bacterial toxins.
Since it has non-appreciable absorption in the dental hard tissue, the Nd:YAG laser is also active in the deep layers of dentin up to a depth of 1100 microns.
Tooth neck hypersensitivity:
Sealing of the dental tubuli is obtained through glazing the exposed dentin surface.
In parodontology, the cooling spray device facilitates a higher efficiency in the initial treatment by moistening the infected granulation tissue, and killing the bacteria. Additionally, it has the ability to change plaque and calculus structure by making it brittle and therefore enabling it to be easier to remove.
Q&A
Is anesthesia necessary by parodontology treatment with Nd:YAG laser?
No, when used correctly the Nd:YAG laser does not cause an adverse heat effect. High precision instruments (400 microns fiber) and very short laser pulses are used, thereby making the treatment painless.
What is the long-term outlook for patients treated for tooth neck hypersensitivity?
In addition to receiving laser treatment, the patient will need to be educated. The results can last anywhere between 8-12 months, depending on the patient’s intake of acidic drinks, toothbrush choice, brushing technique, etc.
